Chinese New Year 2026 in Rome: Two Days of Parades, Dance, and Street Food

The vibrant colors and traditions of China return to the heart of Rome on February 21 and 22, 2026, to celebrate the beginning of the Year of the Horse at the Giardini Nicola Calipari in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II.

For the entire weekend, from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, the Esquilino district will come alive with market stalls and gazebos showcasing traditional crafts, cultural displays, and a wide variety of authentic Chinese cuisine. Visitors can browse handmade items, discover artistic traditions, and enjoy freshly prepared oriental specialties in a festive open-air setting.

Saturday: Community and Cultural Exchange

On Saturday, February 21, the afternoon will focus especially on Rome’s Chinese community. Music, performances, and cultural activities will offer visitors a unique opportunity to learn more about centuries-old traditions, fostering a spirit of exchange and inclusion in one of Rome’s most multicultural neighborhoods.

Sunday: The Spectacular Dragon and Lion Parade

The highlight of the celebration takes place on Sunday morning, February 22. Starting at 10:00 AM, giant dragons and dancing lions will parade through the square. These impressive traditional figures, skillfully animated by performers, symbolize good fortune, prosperity, and happiness.

At 12:00 PM, local authorities and the Ambassador will deliver official greetings, followed by a ceremonial ribbon-cutting. The festivities will then continue with performances showcasing classical Chinese dance and traditional music, offering a glimpse into the artistic heritage of a distant yet deeply connected culture.

Authentic Chinese Street Food

Food lovers will find plenty to enjoy. Throughout the festival, visitors can taste authentic recipes prepared just as they would be in cities like Beijing or Shanghai. Live cooking demonstrations will reveal the techniques behind some of the most beloved dishes, as well as the decorative artistry often seen in Chinese cuisine and cinema.
